Kyoto Animation recently announced during their 2025 New Work Presentation a new television anime adaptation of Keiichi Arawi’s City manga. The highly anticipated anime series is set to debut in 2025 and fans are already buzzing with excitement.

The talented director Taichi Ishidate, known for his work on Violet Evergarden and Kyoukai no Kanata, will be leading the production at Kyoto Animation. The star-studded cast includes popular voice actresses Mikako Komatsu, Aki Toyosaki, and Yui Ishikawa, who will be voicing the characters Midori Nagumo, Niikura, and Wako Izumi, respectively.

Keiichi Arawi, the creator of the beloved series Nichijou, began serializing City in Morning weekly magazine back in September 2016. After captivating readers for four and a half years, the manga came to a close in February 2021 with the publication of its 13th and final volume by Kodansha.

For English-speaking fans, Vertical licensed the manga in July 2017 and released all 13 volumes between March 2018 and January 2022, allowing them to enjoy the full story of City.

The synopsis of City follows the story of Midori, a young woman facing financial struggles and the pressure of unpaid rent from her landlady. With her best friend refusing to lend her money, Midori considers desperate measures like bullying and theft to make ends meet. However, she soon realizes that getting a job might be the more sustainable solution, even if it means sacrificing her adventures in the big city.
