Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of the popular manga series Hunter X Hunter, recently underwent surgery and has shared updates on his progress. Togashi took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce that he has completed the storyboard layouts for two new chapters of the manga. He mentioned that he received educational explanations and commentary from his medical staff during the surgical procedure, as he was under local anesthesia.
This news comes after Togashi had previously reported finishing the storyboard layouts for two chapters on November 23 and inserting dialogue into chapter 413 on November 21. The manga resumed serialization in the 45th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on October 7. The 38th volume of the manga was published by Shueisha on September 4, with the English release of the 37th volume by Viz Media in October 2023.
Togashi has been teasing updates for upcoming chapters of Hunter X Hunter through his X/Twitter posts. In March 2023, he revealed that chapter 401 was completed, but did not confirm when the series would return to serialization. He also hinted at progress on chapter 405 in May. The manga had gone on hiatus in January 2023 due to the author’s health issues.
Shueisha announced during the hiatus that the manga would not follow a weekly serialized format upon its return. The editorial department stated that concrete details about the manga’s serialization and return would be revealed in the magazine once they were confirmed. Hunter X Hunter, which debuted in 1998, has inspired two anime series, two films, OVAs, and stage plays.
Additionally, a 2D 3v3 fighting game titled Hunter X Hunter Nen x Impact is set to be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The game, developed by Bushiroad Games and Eighting, was initially scheduled for release this year but was delayed to 2025 in September.
Fans of the series can look forward to the continuation of Hunter X Hunter as Togashi progresses with the creation of new chapters. Stay tuned for more updates on the beloved manga series and its creator’s recovery journey.
