Aniplex recently announced a new original animation series called Virgin Punk during the Aniplex Online Fest stream. The series is directed by Yasuomi Umetsu and animated by Studio Shaft. The first story in the series, titled “Clockwork Girl,” is set to premiere in early summer 2025 at two cinemas in Tokyo and Osaka.

The story follows the female protagonist, Ubu, as she navigates through suffering and chaos, surrounded by strong characters who have woven their desires into her life. The teaser visual for the series depicts Ubu as a shadow of herself, beaten down by repeated misfortunes.

Yasuomi Umetsu, known for works like Kite and Mezzo, is both directing the anime and designing the characters. The series composition and script are handled by Yūya Takahashi, with animation by Gen’ichirou Abe, Shinya Takahashi, and Maho Kando. Additional staff members include Keita Matsumoto for sub-character design, Niθ for mechanic design, and Naoko Kouda and Shinya Nishizawa for prop design.

The art setting is done by Shin’ichi Yokota, with art directors Yūshi Honjō and Yuki Funagakure leading the team. The series boasts a talented crew for color design, compositing, 3DCG, editing, sound direction, music, and distribution.
