The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Film Tapestry Artwork Revealed

A recent panel at New York Comic Con unveiled a tapestry artwork for the upcoming film, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The panel also featured a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the making of the tapestry. The event was moderated by late-night host and The Lord of the Rings enthusiast Stephen Colbert and included director Kenji Kamiyama, screenwriters Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, and producers Philippa Boyens, Jason DeMarco, and Joseph Chou, along with cast members Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, and Luke Pasqualino.

During the panel, Wise shared that she drew inspiration from her performance in Nausicaä and The Lord of the Rings’ Éowyn. Colbert also humorously shared a poster of himself in the series, jokingly pointing out that it was missing from the tapestry.

The film is set to release in U.S. theaters on December 13, followed by an international release on December 11. The story, set 183 years before the events of the original trilogy, follows the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan, as they face a ruthless enemy seeking their destruction.

The cast includes Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Helm’s daughter Hera, Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, and Miranda Otto reprising her role as Éowyn. The film will also feature a Japanese dub with Masachika Ichimura, Fūka Koshiba, and Kenjirō Tsuda in key roles.

Executive producers for the film include Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and others who were involved in the previous live-action adaptations of The Lord of the Rings. The screenplay is penned by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou.

Producer Joseph Chou confirmed that the film will be in 2D animation, bringing a fresh perspective to the beloved fantasy world. Fans can look forward to experiencing the epic tale of The War of the Rohirrim on the big screen this December.
