The classic Ashita no Joe anime is now available to stream legally on YouTube with English subtitles. TMS Entertainment will be streaming the adaptation of Ikki Kajiwara and Tetsuya Chiba’s manga for the first time in the U.S. The first three episodes will be available for a limited time, starting this Friday.
Directed by Osamu Dezaki, the anime first aired in 1970 with 79 episodes in the first season. A sequel series, Ashita no Joe 2, followed in 1980 with an additional 49 episodes. The series follows the life of future boxing champion Joe Yabuki and has inspired many sports anime that followed.
The legendary manga by Tetsuya Chiba has left a lasting impact on the anime industry. The TV series was later adapted into two feature-length animated movies and continues to inspire anime and sports fans to this day. Ashita no Joe 2 (Tomorrow’s Joe 2) is also currently available on Amazon Prime Video for those interested in watching more of the series.
