A new key visual and PV trailer have been unveiled for the upcoming second chapter of Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199. The anime series, consisting of 26 episodes, is being divided into seven chapters for theatrical release, with the second part scheduled to debut in Japan on November 22, 2024.
The second installment is titled Yamato yo Towa ni: REBEL 3199 Dainishou: Sekijitsu no Shutsugeki in Japanese. The series is currently being shown in Japanese cinemas, with the premiere of chapter one, Kuro no Shinryaku, taking place on July 19, 2024. Naomichi Yamato, known for his work on Macross Delta: Zettai Live!!!!!!, is directing Space Battleship Yamato 3199. Harutoshi Fukui, who has previously worked on Space Battleship Yamato 2205 and Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202, serves as the screenwriter, co-scriptwriter, and chief director. Studio Mother is the primary animation production company, with Satelight providing production assistance.
The anime also features other talented staff members, including scriptwriter Hideki Oka, character designer Nobuteru Yuki, and mechanical designers Junichiro Tamamori, Yasushi Ishizu, and Mika Akitaka. The music is composed by Akira Miyagawa and Hiroshi Miyagawa, with sound direction by Tomohiro Yoshita.
New cast members joining the Space Battleship Yamato films include Makoto Furukawa, Shun Horie, Takuya Eguchi, Yuto Uemura, and Kosuke Toriumi. Space Battleship Yamato 3199 serves as a sequel project to the Uchu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi – Kosho -STASHA- film released in Japan in February 2022.
The original Space Battleship Yamato TV series aired in Japan from 1974 to 1975 and has since inspired various sequels and movies. The remake anime series began with Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 in 2012-2013. Crunchyroll is streaming Space Battleship Yamato 3199 in select territories, with the first two episodes available on the platform.
The series follows the story set in 2207, where Earth faces a new threat after the disappearance of Gamilas and Iscandar. A massive object known as the “Grand Reverse” breaches Earth’s defenses, leading to chaos and a secret mission for the old Yamato crew as they embark on a voyage to unseen dimensions to save humanity.
