The television anime of Katarina’s Shangri-La Frontier web novel has revealed two new cast members and a promotional video for the second season’s new “Nephilim Hollow Arc.” The arc is set to begin in the anime’s 31st episode on November 17.
The newly announced cast members are Rie Takahashi as Rust, the #1 ranked player in the robot action game Nephilim Hollow, and Kaito Ishikawa as Mordo, a skilled operator who plays Nephilim Hollow with Rust.
The second season of the anime premiered on October 13 and will run for two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan, including an English dub. Previously announced new cast members for the second season include Yuka Terasaki as Akane Akitsu and Natsuki Hanae as Ceecrue.
LiSA is performing the opening theme song “Queen” for the first cours of the new season, and -otoha- is performing the ending theme song “Anya no Dancer: Dancer in the Dark Night.”
The first season of the anime premiered in October 2023 on 28 MBS/TBS networks and aired for two consecutive cours. Toshiyuki Kubooka directed the anime at C2C with assistance from Hiroki Ikeshita, and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu supervised and wrote the series scripts. Ayumi Kurashima served as the character designer and chief animation director, with music composed by monaca.
Kodansha USA Publishing releases Ryōsuke Fuji’s manga adaptation of Katarina’s Shangri-La Frontier web novel. The story follows second-year high school student Rakurō Hizutome, who is known for finding and conquering “shitty games.” When introduced to the new VR game Shangri-La Frontier, Rakurō dives right in, showcasing his gaming expertise. The novel series debuted on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in May 2017, and a manga adaptation launched in July 2020 in Weekly Shōnen Magazine.
Additionally, Netmarble Nexus is developing a game based on the series, with Netmarble set to publish it.
