Renowned manga artist Paru Itagaki has just launched a new horror manga series called Ushimitsu Gao on Akita Publishing’s Champion Cross platform. The first chapter of the series is already available for readers to dive into.
The story follows Megumi Sano, a 33-year-old housewife with a strong spiritual sensitivity. One fateful night, while intimate with her husband, a ghost unexpectedly appears in their bedroom. Rather than feeling scared, Megumi is more embarrassed by the ghost witnessing her lackluster sex life with her husband. From that night on, the ghost becomes a regular visitor in their bedroom, adding a chilling twist to their everyday life.
Itagaki is also known for her work on the SANDA manga series, which has recently been approved for an anime adaptation. SANDA first debuted in Weekly Shōnen Champion in July 2021, and has been well-received by fans. Additionally, Itagaki’s most famous work, BEASTARS, concluded in October 2020 after a successful run in Weekly Shōnen Champion.
BEASTARS, which was adapted into a popular anime series, premiered on Netflix in Japan and on Fuji TV’s [+Ultra] programming block in October 2019. The second season of the anime aired in January and was later released on Netflix outside of Japan in July 2021. Fans can look forward to the final season of BEASTARS, which is set to premiere on Netflix in December and will be split into two parts.
In addition to her other projects, Itagaki also created the mini-series Drip Drip (Bota Bota), which was published in Japan in April 2021. The English version of the manga was released by Viz Media in October 2022, further showcasing Itagaki’s talent and versatility as a manga artist.
Fans of horror and suspense are sure to be thrilled by Paru Itagaki’s latest venture into the world of spooky storytelling with Ushimitsu Gao. Keep an eye out for more updates and chapters as the series progresses on Champion Cross.
