A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest Game to End Service on December 2
The popular smartphone game, A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest, is set to end its service on December 2 at 1:00 p.m. JST. The decision to terminate the game was announced on the official website by Square Enix, the game’s developer. Along with the closure, a special offline “Memorial Ver.” edition of the game is scheduled for release on the same day.
The producer of the game, Hiroki Yamada, expressed his regret over the decision to end the service, attributing it to his own perceived lack of ability to sustain the game’s performance. Sales of in-game currency have already ceased, and the game’s staff is planning events to commemorate the final days of service. The game’s story will culminate with an adaptation of the original novel series’ “Russia Arc” before its closure.
Despite the end of the online service, an offline version of the game is in the works to preserve some of the players’ progress and achievements. However, certain features such as collaborative content, voiceovers, and certain game elements will not be available in the offline version. Players can expect the offline version to include functions to view unlocked scenarios, collected illustrations, and character effects. Additionally, the popular “Bakusō! Harapeko Index” mini-game will also be included in the offline version.
A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest first launched in July 2019 as a free-to-play “academy supernatural powers battle role-playing game” based on the beloved A Certain Magical Index franchise. While the game allowed players to enjoy the experience without cost, in-game items were available for purchase.
The A Certain Magical Index series has a history of inspiring various gaming adaptations, including two PlayStation Portable games released in 2011 and 2013. The crossover game, A Certain Magical Virtual-On (To Aru Majutsu no Virtual-On), made its debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan in February 2018. Prior mobile games in the franchise, such as Toaru Majutsu no Index Struggle Battle and Toaru Majutsu to Kagaku no Puzzle Decks, have also made their mark in the gaming world.
As fans bid farewell to A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest, they can look back on the memorable experiences shared within the game and anticipate the upcoming offline version. The legacy of the game will live on through the offline edition, allowing players to revisit their favorite moments and characters from the virtual world they once cherished.
With the end of one chapter comes the potential for new beginnings, and fans of the series can eagerly await what the future holds for the A Certain Magical Index franchise.
