Kadokawa recently announced that the popular horror comedy manga Mieruko-chan will be adapted into a live-action film set to release in early summer 2025. The manga, created by Tomoki Izumi, follows the story of Miko Yotsuya, played by Nanoka Hara, who suddenly begins seeing terrifying creatures that others cannot see. Instead of running away or confronting them, Miko chooses to ignore them completely.

The film adaptation will be written and directed by Yoshihiro Nakamura, known for his work on films like Fish Story and A Boy and His Samurai. The announcement was accompanied by an interview with the lead actress, Nanoka Hara, which was streamed online.

Mieruko-chan manga was originally launched on Kadokawa’s ComicWalker website in November 2018 and has gained immense popularity with over 85 million views to date. The series has been compiled into 10 volumes, with over three million copies in circulation in Japan. Yen Press is responsible for publishing the English version of the manga, with the ninth volume already released and the tenth volume set to come out in April 2025.

The manga also inspired an anime adaptation in 2021, which was streamed with an English dub by Funimation. Fans of the series are eagerly anticipating the live-action film adaptation, which is sure to bring the beloved characters and story to life on the big screen.
