Kageki Shojo!! Manga Takes Short Break
The popular manga series Kageki Shojo!! is going on a one-issue break as revealed in the April issue of Hakusensha’s Melody magazine. The break is due to the author’s circumstances, and fans can expect the manga to resume in the next issue on March 28.
Kumiko Saiki, the talented creator behind the series, originally serialized the manga under the title Kageki Shoujo! in Shueisha’s Jump Kai magazine from 2012 to 2014. After the original serialization ended, Saiki launched the ongoing sequel, Kageki Shoujo!!, in Hakusensha’s Melody magazine in 2015. The manga has garnered significant acclaim and was even nominated for Best Shōjo Manga in Kodansha’s 44th annual Manga Awards in 2020.
The story follows Sarasa, a young girl with dreams of playing the role of Oscar in the Kouka Acting Troupe, an all-female group akin to the Takarazuka Revue. To achieve her dream, Sarasa must attend the Kouka School of Musical and Theatrical Arts for two years. As she navigates singing, dancing, and acting classes, she forms close bonds with her peers, including her roommate Ai, a former J-idol. Despite her talent for making friends, Sarasa’s bold nature and big aspirations also attract enemies along the way.
The manga’s success led to a television anime adaptation that premiered in July 2021. Funimation streamed the series and later released it on home video, including an English dub for international fans to enjoy. With its engaging story and dynamic characters, Kageki Shojo!! has captured the hearts of fans worldwide.
As fans eagerly await the manga’s return, they can look forward to more captivating storytelling and emotional depth from Kumiko Saiki. Stay tuned for the next chapter of Kageki Shojo!! in the upcoming issue of Melody magazine.
