A new trailer has been released for the second season of the donghua animated series “A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized.” The Japanese dub of the series is set to premiere in Japan on October 2, 2024. The trailer gives a sneak peek of the main ending theme “Ameiro Suisai” by MiMi.

The first season was directed by Siwen Liu (Dawang Bu Gaoxing), Wan Zi served as the character designer, and LAN STUDIO was the animation production company. The same team is working on the second season. The Japanese dub voice cast for season two includes Aoi Yuki as Reiko, Hochu Otsuka as Herbivorous Dragon, Yoshino Nanjo as Ryatt, Mariko Miyase as Aliante, Shuka Saito as Water Saint, Yui Ishikawa as Vanessa, Iori Noguchi as Rosetta, Haruki Ishiya as Edward, Chafurin as Pravas, and Kohei Amasaki as the Mysterious Man.

The first season premiered with 12 episodes on bilibili on July 30, 2022, and was available with English subtitles on Crunchyroll in August 2022. The Japanese dubbed version of the first season debuted on January 6, 2024.

The animated adaptation is based on Kaisei Enomoto’s fantasy light novel series published under Kadokawa Shoten’s Sneaker Bunko imprint. Shugao provided illustrations for the light novels, which were released in three volumes. The series originally started as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro from June 2017 to June 2020.

Additionally, the original light novels inspired a manga adaptation by Koichi Muro that ran in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine. The manga consisted of five tankobon volumes.

According to Crunchyroll, the main synopsis of the series follows Reiko as she offers herself to a 5,000-year-old dragon in exchange for his help to defend her village from the demon king. However, the dragon turns out to be a vegetarian and a weakling. Together, they set out on a journey to defeat the demon king, with Reiko claiming to be the dragon’s disciple, drawing from his powers.
