Henry Cavill, known for his roles in “The Witcher” and “Man of Steel,” has been cast in the lead role for Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Voltron feature film. The film will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and filming is set to begin in Australia this fall.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed the news, stating that Daniel Quinn-Toye, who previously served as Tom Holland’s understudy and played Paris in a West End production of Romeo & Juliet, will also have a lead role in the film. The project is still auditioning for a lead female role.

The live-action rights to Voltron were acquired by Amazon in 2022, alongside other major studios. This upcoming film will be a new adaptation of the popular franchise, which originated from two Toei Animation robot anime series: “King of Beasts Golion” and “Armored Fleet Dairugger XV.”

The first Voltron television series aired from 1984 to 1985 and focused on young pilots who fought against an empire of alien conquerors with the help of five mechanized lions that combined to form a powerful robot. Over the years, the franchise has expanded to include three more television series, with the most recent being DreamWorks and Netflix’s “Voltron: Legendary Defender.”

While previous attempts were made to create a live-action Hollywood project for Voltron in 2007 and 2012, they did not come to fruition. This new film, with Henry Cavill in the lead role, is set to bring the beloved robot lion team back to the big screen in an exciting new way.

Fans of the franchise can look forward to seeing their favorite characters and the iconic robot in a new live-action adaptation that promises to bring the action and adventure of Voltron to a whole new level. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated project as filming progresses in Australia.
