Amazon Prime Video and YouTube are now streaming the television anime adaptation of Shinobu Takayama’s Haigakura manga, with English subtitles available for viewers. The anime premiered on television in Japan on Monday and tells the story of a youth named Ichiyō who sets out to capture the gods who have fled and scattered throughout the realm. Alongside the subordinate god Tenkō, Ichiyō seeks to find the four evil gods who hold the key to the realm’s collapse.
The anime features a talented voice cast, including Takeo Ōtsuka, Kaito Ishikawa, Lynn, Hiro Shimono, Satoshi Hino, Rie Kugimiya, and many others. The series is directed by Junichi Yamamoto and produced by Typhoon Graphics, with Yū Murai handling the series scripts. The character designs are done by Masaki Satō, and the music is composed by Yuki Kurihara. The opening theme song, “Chaser,” is performed by MADKID, while the ending theme song, “Phoenix,” is performed by Hikaru Makishima.
Shinobu Takayama began serializing the Haigakura manga in Ichijinsha’s Zero-Sum Ward magazine in 2008 and continued the series on the Zero-Sum Online service after the magazine ceased publication in 2015. The manga has garnered over 1.3 million copies in circulation across 16 volumes. Takayama’s previous work, Amatsuki, also received a television anime adaptation in 2008.
