Following the success of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM anime film, a new project titled Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO has been announced as a prequel. Fans can catch a glimpse of what’s in store for them in a teaser trailer that has been released.
The original script for Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO was actually completed 20 years ago by screenwriter Chiaki Morosawa and Shigeru Morita. This script was written during the planning phase of Gundam SEED FREEDOM. Director Mitsuo Fukuda revealed that the project was initially intended to be an OVA (Original Video Animation).
Upon its release, SEED FREEDOM quickly became a box office hit in Japan, grossing 4.86 billion yen and becoming the highest-earning Gundam film ever. The film later became available on Netflix on September 1, 2024. Directed by Mitsuo Fukuda at Bandai Namco Filmworks, SEED FREEDOM received critical acclaim for its storytelling and animation.
The story of Gundam SEED FREEDOM is set in the Cosmic Era (C.E.), where two factions, Coordinators and Naturals, are engaged in a conflict that escalates into full-blown war. The Destiny Plan is introduced as a solution to end the conflict by assigning roles to individuals and creating a world without competition. However, as the battle rages on, the Destiny Plan is rejected in favor of preserving humanity’s freedom and aspirations.
Fans of the Gundam series can look forward to the upcoming Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO project and stay tuned for more updates on this exciting prequel. Keep an eye out for new developments and additional details as the project continues to take shape.
