Tohru Fujisawa’s GTO: Paradise Lost Kai manga has concluded its run after being relaunched earlier this year on April 1. The spinoff of the popular GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) series published its final chapter on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket website. This manga originally started in Weekly Young Magazine back in April 2014 and has seen 20 compiled book volumes published by Kodansha.

After a hiatus in February 2023, the manga was expected to return in the summer of the same year but did not resume serialization. Tohru Fujisawa mentioned on Twitter in September 2023 that the manga was on hiatus due to being removed from the magazine midway through its serialization. He even considered the possibility of another publisher taking over the copyright. However, the manga made a comeback with the title GTO: Paradise Lost Kai on April 1, only to conclude recently.

Crunchyroll used to offer the manga online, but it stopped offering catalog chapters in 2018 and shut down its Crunchyroll Manga service in December of the same year. Currently, Kodansha USA Publishing releases the manga digitally in English, with the 20th volume coming out in March 2023. In North America, Tokyopop and Vertical have published various other GTO manga titles like GTO: The Early Years.

The original GTO manga has inspired a television anime and multiple live-action adaptations. GTO: The Early Years even led to a new live-action series in February 2020. Fujisawa mentioned in 2021 that GTO: Paradise Lost was intended to be the final installment in the GTO series.

Fans of the series may be saddened by the conclusion of GTO: Paradise Lost Kai, but they can look back on the impact that the series has had over the years. From the original manga to its various spinoffs and adaptations, the GTO series has left a lasting legacy in the world of manga and anime.
