Assassin’s Creed Shadows Prequel Manga Coming in March

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows game is set to receive a prequel manga called Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Iga no Monogatari (Tale of Iga). The official announcement was made on X/Twitter, revealing that the manga will be illustrated by reguje, known for their work on “UEN” and “Change the World” one-shots.

The manga is scheduled to debut on Kodansha’s YanMaga Web site on March 20, coinciding with the global launch of the game. While the initial release will be in Japanese, Ubisoft has plans to make it available outside of Japan post the Japanese launch.

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will immerse themselves in the intertwined narratives of Naoe, a skilled shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the legendary African samurai. The game is set against the backdrop of the late Sengoku period, where these two characters will shape a new era for Japan.

Variety also reported that Mackenyu, known for his role in the live-action adaptation of One Piece, will lend his voice to the character Gennojo in the game. Gennojo is a pivotal figure who aids the protagonist in tracking and eliminating a crucial target.

The game is slated to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, macOS, and iPadOS.

This isn’t the first time the Assassin’s Creed series has delved into manga adaptations. Minoji Kurata previously worked on Assassin’s Creed: China (Assassin’s Creed: Blade of Shao Jun), serialized in Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday GX magazine. The English version was published by Viz Media.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is renowned for its exploration of a clandestine war between Assassins and Templars throughout history, spanning various eras and locations. The series has tackled pivotal moments in history such as the Third Crusade, Renaissance Italy, Colonial America, the French Revolution, Victorian England, and Ptolemaic Egypt.

As fans eagerly await the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and its accompanying manga, the anticipation for a new chapter in the Assassin’s Creed universe continues to grow. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting prequel manga and game release.
