Square Enix’s popular smartphone game, A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest, is set to end its service on December 2. The game, which launched in 2019, has announced that it will release an offline “Memorial Ver.” edition on the same day. The decision to end the game’s service was made by the staff, citing difficulties in providing satisfactory service in the future.
Producer Hiroki Yamada expressed his regret in a post, attributing the game’s closure to his own shortcomings. Sales of in-game currency have already been halted, and the staff is planning various in-game events leading up to the service termination. The game will adapt the original novel series’ “Russia Arc” before shutting down.
The offline version of the game aims to preserve players’ progress but will lose certain features like collaboration-related data, voice and song data, and battle components. However, players can still view unlocked scenarios, illustrations, and effects of acquired battle characters in the offline version. The popular mini-game “Bakusō! Harapeko Index” will also be available offline.
A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest is a free-to-play “academy supernatural powers battle role-playing game” based on the hit franchise. This game follows previous successful releases such as the PlayStation Portable games and the A Certain Magical Virtual-On crossover game. Despite the game’s closure, fans can look forward to the offline version and the conclusion of the “Russia Arc” storyline before bidding farewell to the game.
