Kyoto Animation recently announced that they will be adapting Keiichi Arawi’s CITY manga into an anime series. This news came during a livestream event for their 2025 lineup. The CITY The Animation anime is set to premiere next year and marks Kyoto Animation’s first non-sequel anime in six years.

The anime will be directed by Taichi Ishidate, known for his work on Violet Evergarden and Beyond the Boundary. The main cast includes Mikako Komatsu as Midori Nagumo, Aki Toyosaki as Niikura, and Yui Ishikawa as Wako Izumi. The story follows the lives of residents in a unique town filled with laughter, love, and emotional moments.

Keiichi Arawi originally serialized the CITY manga in Kodansha’s Morning from 2016 to 2021. The series concluded with the 13th volume in April 2021. Fans of Arawi’s previous works like Nichijou and Helvetica Standard can expect a similar quirky and humorous tone in CITY.

Vertical, now Kodansha USA, has published the entire CITY manga series in English, making it accessible to a wider audience. Arawi’s distinctive art style and storytelling have garnered a dedicated fanbase, and many are eagerly anticipating the anime adaptation.

With Kyoto Animation’s reputation for producing visually stunning and emotionally resonant anime, CITY The Animation is poised to captivate audiences with its charming and slice-of-life narrative. As more details about the anime are revealed, fans can look forward to immersing themselves in the vibrant world of CITY and its eccentric characters.
