Jun Maeda’s highly anticipated game, Heaven Burns Red, has finally launched in English for smartphones and Windows. The game, released by Yostar Games, marks Maeda’s first completely new game in 13 years and has been met with much excitement from fans.
The game’s storyline revolves around Earth being besieged by mysterious life-forms known as “the Phage,” leading to humanity’s retreat and the brink of ruin. In a last-ditch effort to fight back, humans develop the ultimate weapon called “Seraph,” allowing specially endowed individuals to combat the Phage. Players take on the role of Ruka Kayamori, a talented girl enlisted in a special squadron to defend humanity against this threat.
Originally launched in Japan in February 2022, Heaven Burns Red was met with critical acclaim and anticipation for its English release. The game features stunning visuals and character designs by Yuugen, based on the original designs of Na-Ga, Fumuyun, and maroyaka. Maeda himself provided the main scenario for the game, as well as the music and theme songs in collaboration with Nagi Yanagi.
In addition to the game, Kadokawa published the Heaven Burns Red Comic Anthology in September 2023, featuring stories from eight manga creators. A four-panel manga based on the game was also launched on Kadokawa’s G’s Channel website and the game’s official Twitter account.
