The Catholic Church recently introduced a new mascot called “Luce” for the upcoming Jubilee 2025 event at Vatican City and Expo 2025 in Osaka. The mascot was unveiled by Archbishop Rino Fisichella and designed by Simone Legno, the co-founder of tokidoki. Luce, which means “light” in Italian, is described as a blend of Christian symbols and Japanese culture.

The Vatican News YouTube channel shared a short animation of Luce waving at the audience. The mascot is set to make an appearance at the Lucca Comics and Games convention, where it will be joined by “pilgrim friends” named Fe, Zin, and Sky, as well as a pet dog, helper angel, and friendly dove.

Despite being newly revealed, artists have already created fan art of Luce, showcasing the excitement surrounding the new mascot. The introduction of Luce adds a playful and modern touch to the Catholic Church’s presence at these upcoming events, blending traditional and contemporary elements seamlessly. The collaboration between tokidoki and the Vatican is an intriguing fusion of cultures and creativity, bringing a fresh perspective to the representation of the Church. The positive reception and engagement with Luce further highlight the importance of innovative and inclusive approaches to sharing messages of faith and unity in today’s diverse and dynamic world.
