A panel at New York Comic Con for TurtleMe’s The Beginning After The End webnovel and its webcomic adaptation announced on Saturday that the franchise will get a television anime adaptation in 2025. Crunchyroll will stream the anime worldwide excluding Asia (but including India).
This anime adaptation marks the first time an American web novel and webcomic is being adapted into an anime. The talented team behind the series includes Keitaro Motonaga as the director, Takamitsu Kōno overseeing the series scripts, Masami Sueoka as the character designer, and Keiji Inai composing the music. Slow Curve is producing the anime, with TurtleMe serving as the story supervisor and executive producer. Tapas Entertainment’s Mike Zhu, Kevin Nicklaus, and TurtleMe LLC’s Gabrielle Luu are also executive producers on the series.
The anime’s Japanese title is Saikyō no Ō-sama, Nidome no Jinsei wa Nani wo Suru?, which is the title of the webcomic in Japan. The webnovel series launched in English on Tapas in January 2017, with over 1,400 episodes to date. The story follows the journey of King Grey, now living as Arthur Leywin, as he navigates a world filled with magic, mythical creatures, and epic battles.
The webcomic adaptation, which started in July 2018, has seen significant success and is available in seven languages worldwide. With more than 61.8 million reads globally, the franchise is a massive hit, grossing nearly US$500,000 monthly. Yen Press is also releasing the webcomic in print, with the seventh volume scheduled for release in March 2025.
Fans of The Beginning After the End can look forward to the upcoming anime adaptation, which promises to bring the beloved story to life on screen. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements as the anime production progresses.
