Kodansha released the third volume of “A Brief Moment of Ichika” in April, bringing the series to a conclusion. The story follows Yurugi and Ichika as they spend precious time together, knowing that Yurugi’s time is limited. They sneak out of the hospital so Yurugi can fulfill his wish of holding a lecture at the school before his disappearance.
The sudden disappearance of Yurugi leaves Ichika devastated and unsure of his fate. The ambiguous ending of the series reflects the uncertainty of living on borrowed time. Author Natsu Tadano cleverly portrays the impact of someone disappearing from your life and the struggles of hiding illness from others.
Despite some ups and downs, the series effectively portrays the passage of time and the emotions of the characters. Tadano’s art style, though sometimes confined to small panels, effectively conveys the characters’ mental states and adds depth to the story. The translation by Gwen Clayton is smooth and engaging, making the volume an enjoyable read.
While the lack of bonus content is disappointing, “A Brief Moment of Ichika” remains a compelling read with relatable characters and a thought-provoking storyline. The short length of the series makes it accessible to readers looking for a meaningful story without a significant time commitment. Overall, the series is worth exploring for those interested in a unique and emotional narrative.
