Kodansha Game Creators’ Lab recently announced a new game based on Katsuhisa Minami’s The Fable manga. The game, titled The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike, is a roguelike deckbuilder developed by Mono Entertainment. What sets this game apart is that players can use manga panels as cards to construct their own manga pages for battles.

Each turn, players are dealt random panels based on scenes from the manga. Players must strategically place these panels on a page to create their own manga and unleash various effects such as attacks, movement, and defense. The panels activate in the order in which the manga is read, adding a unique twist to gameplay. Players must gather panels to build their deck, strategically create manga pages for different situations, and use their wisdom to defeat enemies.

The original manga, released in English by Kodansha USA Publishing, follows the story of the infamous hitman known as The Fable. Despite his skills as a killer, being a normal person proves to be a challenging task when he’s told he can’t kill anyone for a while.

The Fable manga, written by Minami, debuted in Weekly Young Magazine in November 2014 and concluded in November 2019 with 22 volumes. The series received the Best General Manga award at the 41st Kodansha awards in 2017. Additionally, the manga inspired two live-action films released in 2019 and 2021, as well as a television anime that premiered in April 2024 and is airing for two continuous cours.

Minami also launched a sequel manga titled The Fable: The Second Contact in July 2021, which concluded in July 2023 with nine volumes. This sequel serves as the “second part” to the overall manga franchise.

Fans of The Fable manga can look forward to experiencing the world of The Fable in a new and innovative way with The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike game. With its unique gameplay mechanics and connection to the original manga, this game is sure to offer an exciting and immersive experience for players.
