Kyoto Animation recently announced that they will be adapting Keiichi Arawi’s City manga into an anime series set to premiere in 2025. The director of the show will be Taichi Ishidate, known for his work on Violet Evergarden and Nichijou. The main cast includes Mikako Komatsu, Aki Toyosaki, and Yui Ishikawa in the lead roles.

The City manga, which was serialized from 2016 to 2021 in Kodansha’s Morning, follows the story of Midori Nagumo, a broke college student living in a city full of eccentric characters. Midori finds herself in a tough spot as she struggles with debt, unpaid rent, and a friend who won’t lend her money anymore.

The series promises to deliver a mix of surreal and slapstick humor as Midori navigates her way through the chaotic city. As she contemplates resorting to bullying or theft to solve her financial woes, she also grapples with the idea of getting a job that would take away from her adventurous city life.

Fans of Arawi’s previous work on Nichijou can expect a similar blend of quirky characters and comedic situations in City. The announcement of this adaptation has generated excitement among anime enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the release in 2025.
