A new visual and voice cast addition have been announced for the upcoming TV anime series “Once Upon a Witch’s Death.” Rumi Okubo will be joining the main voice cast as Fine Cavendish, alongside protagonist Meg Raspberry. The anime is set to premiere in 2025.

In addition to Okubo, the main voice cast includes Yoshino Aoyama as Meg, Yoshiko Sakakibara as Faust, Miharu Hanai as Carbuncle, and Aina Suzuki as White-Owl. The anime series is directed by Atsushi Nigorikawa, with Keiichiro Ochi as the series composer and Yukishizuku as the character designer. EMT Squared is handling the animation production for the series.

The anime is based on a light novel series by Saka and illustrated by Chorefuji, first published under ASCII Media Works’s Dengeki no Shinbuei imprint in December 2021. Yen Press has licensed the light novels for release in English for North America. A manga adaptation by Kenu Amearare was released in March 2023 and is available digitally in English on Kadokawa’s BookWalker website.

The main storyline of “Once Upon a Witch’s Death” revolves around Meg, who learns on her seventeenth birthday that she only has one year left to live. Her mentor, the Eternal Witch Faust, reveals that she is cursed and must grow a seed of life using one thousand tears of joy to save herself. As Meg embarks on this quest, she discovers the importance of connecting with others and sharing moments of joy, even in the face of death.
