The Kyoto Animation 2025 New Work Presentation special program made a big announcement about an upcoming anime movie based on Cool-kyou Shinja’s Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) manga. The movie, titled Samishigariya no Ryuu (A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved), is set to be released in 2025.

Director Tatsuya Ishihara, known for his work on Hibike! Euphonium, will be returning to direct the movie at Kyoto Animation. Fans will be happy to hear that voice actresses Maria Naganawa, Mutsumi Tamura, and Yuuki Kuwahara will be reprising their roles as Kanna, Kobayashi, and Tooru, respectively.

The slice of life fantasy manga first appeared in Monthly Action’s inaugural issue back in May 2013. Since then, Futabasha has published 15 volumes of the manga, with the latest volume released on April 11. The manga has been a hit, with a total of 3.8 million copies of its volumes in circulation. In addition to the main series, there are four spin-offs focusing on different supporting characters, including the latest one, Okomorigurashi no Fafnir (Fafnir the Recluse), which debuted in November 2020.

Kyoto Animation previously adapted the manga into two television anime seasons, first in Winter 2017 and then in Summer 2021. Fans were treated to unaired episodes included in home video releases for both seasons. Crunchyroll simulcasted the anime with subtitles, and Funimation released the first season on home video in North America in April 2018.

For English-speaking fans, Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the manga since December 2015 and has been releasing volumes in English. The company also publishes the various spin-off series, such as Kanna no Nichijou, Elma no OL Nikki, and Okomorigurashi no Fafnir.

Excitement is building for the upcoming movie, and fans can stay updated by visiting the official site or following the official X account on social media. Keep an eye out for more news and updates as the release date approaches!
